I would start this article by telling you that its purpose is not to tell you that "one camera is better than the other" but to give you keys so that you can your choice based on your budget, your interest in a brand or your practice of photography (in travel or family)
You should know that there are several types of cameras:
- compacts
- the bridges
- hybrids
- reflexes
I'm going to talk to you more specifically about reflex and mirrorless cameras
- Compacts no longer have much interest in view of the improvement in the photo quality of smartphones.
- Bridges do not have interchangeable lenses and a smaller sensor than SLRs or hybrids (we will talk about sensors in another blog).
- As for the differences between hybrids and reflexes, they are of several orders. the size of the case, the electronic or optical sight, the focus .... whatever it is Hybrid or Reflex, what matters is to master your equipment.
The choice of one or the other will remain a personal choice, I advise you to read articles on this subject... to try these two types of boxes at your supplier and to make up your own mind on the question which even today divides certain photographers, informed or not. Just as it is difficult to advise a future car buyer on a propulsion system (petrol, diesel, electric, hybrid)...it remains a personal choice depending on your habits and your feelings.
So coming to the criteria of choice for your future camera, your travel companion, your memory maker.
First of all, you will hear about APS-C formats or Full Format (Full Frame) whether for SLRs or hybrids
Full format cameras are aimed more at professionals or experienced amateurs. They have better image quality, a larger frame, better ISO sensitivity...
At this stage, you are going to tell me why choose an APS-C format camera... well, quite simply because they are smaller and therefore easier to handle or take on a trip. but not only...for starters, they have a good enough image quality and it will be some time before you have made real progress in photography to realize that this APS-C body is starting to be a little limited for you.
Last element to tip the balance in favor of the APS-C format when you start... the price... between 300 and less than 600 euros... you have to count for a Full Format from 1000 to more than 3000 euros. And here we are talking about a camera without a lens!!
Another criterion ... the brand ... There are a large number of emblematic manufacturers
- Cannon
-Nikon
Canon and Nikon have shared the lion's share for a long time...the other brands have rushed into the mirrorless and video market that Canon and Nikon had neglected for some time, perhaps for fear of competing with their SLR market. .
Since then they have repositioned themselves with high quality hybrid models.
Still, these 2 major brands of cameras have an undeniable advantage apart from their technical knowledge...it's their infinite range of lenses...And you will realize over time that this choice A large number of lenses will eventually allow you to develop your photography practice by "specializing" in a field, whether it is portraiture, macrography, landscapes, black and white...etc...
In conclusion, here are the criteria to take into account for a first purchase:
- not to exceed 500 euros (APS-C body + 18x55 lens generally supplied)
- the Canon or Nikon brand preferably in my opinion
- a reflex or hybrid camera
For a second camera...ask yourself the right questions...have better autofocus, wider ISO range, higher burst speed, removable screen, GPS, WIFI...etc...
My model choices:
Nikon D3500 Reflex : 450 euros
Nikon D5600 Reflex : 650 euros
